Edits to Our Website
Welcome and thank you for listening! Our website will be undergoing construction throughout the summer months. We’ve left it online, but you may notice that some information is outdated or some functions aren’t working. We appreciate your patience as we make our transition.
Whether you like indie music or classic rock, chart-toppers or underground troubadours, sports coverage or the comically absurd, WPLS has something for you.
We relocated last semester as part of the Trone Student Center renovations. After a period of reorganization and expansion, our station is back with a new studio, new programming, a new streaming service, and much more. Be sure to check out our concert calendar, browse our programs, or read about our station’s long history.
Celebrating 73 Years
Furman radio began in 1940, predating today’s campus by nearly two decades. Trustee Roger C. Peace provided the university with its first station which broadcasted on 600 AM. Over the years, the station eventually switched to FM and launched an online stream in the 2000s. Beginning in 2012, WPLS stopped broadcasting on FM and became a streaming-only organization.

Our Launch
We value tradition at WPLS. That’s why we inaugurated our new website with “Satisfaction” by the Rolling Stones. According to legend, our predecessor, WFBA, broadcasted the song in 1965 to inaugurate their own studio because the other rock stations in Greenville had deemed the song too obscene for the air. Nowadays, our staff can’t decide exactly what’s so inappropriate, but we do like a good story.
Get Involved
As we enter a new phase in the history of our station, we’re very eager to accept new members. With an all-new studio located in the student media wing of the Trone Student Center, this is an extraordinary time to get involved. Contact us to learn more.
